Vintage Rolling Carts....

I love the way some creative bloggers out there have repurposed old carts for their homes and made them look chic and modern.  Here are some inspiration photos that I have come across:

Imagine my delight when I came across this vintage cart in an antique mall:

Okay, I know it doesn't look like much, but I found the photo above it and knew that is exactly how I wanted it to look for little G's room.  I apologize for not being able to find the blog where I found the painted cart to reference it!  Anyway, I sanded the whole cart, sprayed primer on it, then sprayed Rustoleoum's Hammered Bronze paint.  I love this paint because the hammered texture is very forgiving!  Here is the final result:

What's new at my house...

For Christmas we promised the boys that we would give them their own bedrooms (they shared one previously) and completely redo them to reflect their personalities (and my decorating taste, of course!)  I apologize for not having before shots - I am bad about forgetting to do that!  Litte G wanted a "rock n' roll" room and J wanted something more worldly that included globes.  As Pottery Barn Kids as my inspiration, I went to work and these are the finished products:

Design Inspiration in the Grocery Checkout Line

We've all been there, standing in line at the grocery store (I always pick the slowest one!) looking around at the magazines to entertain ourselves.  You see J-Lo, Brangelina, a mom giving birth to an alien.  You also see several home design magazines and you flip through, but think, "these homes are too fancy" or "these furnishings are too expensive".  But there are also some other magazines that you can flip through for good, simple, beautiful home ideas that you might not have thought of before.  Next time, check out the images in  Womans Day magazine, Family Circle, and Good Housekeeping.  You might be surprised!  Here are some recent inspirations that I found:

Schoolhouse Electric

Hey Guys!  I know it has been awhile, but I am going to try to post more frequently now that we are into the new year and things have slowed down.  Plus, I have made some new year's resolutions like take calcium vitamins, blog more, exercise, blah, blah, blah.  So, here I am! 

Don't you just love when you are surfing the net and you come across a website that you haven't seen before and it is totally fun and inspirational?  I have discovered such a site recently - Schoolhouse Electric.  Apparently, this retail store has been around for the last 10 years, but I have only seen it this week!  Their style is very eclectic, simple and very much what's going on in the design world now.  What's more, I think the style would be very easy to imitate on a budget - now that really gets my blood pumping!  Check out these images from my new discovery:

Swiss Army in home decor?

For Christmas, my 2 boys are getting there own rooms.  They have been sharing a room since they were toddlers and now that they are 7 (almost 8) and 9, we think it's time that they have a space to call their own.  So, I have been brainstorming about boy's room designs.  In my browsing around, I came across the coolest Swiss Army Blanket from Sundance Catalog:

At $300, this is just slightly out of my budget!  But then, I came across a much much less expensive version at an Army Navy Surplus store!  Check it out:

This blanket can be found gr8gear for $21.99!  Now that's a bargain!

After ordering the blanket, I started looking around the internet for how people have used these blankets in rooms.  Boy did I come across some eye candy!  I am always amazed at how creative people are!
