Swiss Army in home decor?

For Christmas, my 2 boys are getting there own rooms.  They have been sharing a room since they were toddlers and now that they are 7 (almost 8) and 9, we think it's time that they have a space to call their own.  So, I have been brainstorming about boy's room designs.  In my browsing around, I came across the coolest Swiss Army Blanket from Sundance Catalog:

At $300, this is just slightly out of my budget!  But then, I came across a much much less expensive version at an Army Navy Surplus store!  Check it out:

This blanket can be found gr8gear for $21.99!  Now that's a bargain!

After ordering the blanket, I started looking around the internet for how people have used these blankets in rooms.  Boy did I come across some eye candy!  I am always amazed at how creative people are!

These have been done with just army blankets!

Have a great weekend!  It looks like a good one to spend some time wrapped up in a blanket!

Thrifty Style

First of all, thank you so much to Jane at Little House of Style for awarding me The Versatile Blogger award:

That was so sweet of Jane to think of my little ol' blog and I really appreciate it!  She has some cute projects brewing over there, so check her out!  I especially love the giant candy corn!  Cute!

Now on with our regularly scheduled blog post.  The other day I was perusing etsy and came across some blog entries called "Get The Look Decor".    They have taken homes that have been furnished with some really cool thrift store and flea market finds, and shown how you can get a similar look with items available on etsy.  Here are some of my favorite thrifty rooms:

Chalkboard Drink Server

Happy rainy Columbus Day everyone!  With the kids out of school, we have been having a lazy morning at home.  Since I have some time with just me, a cup of coffee, and my computer, I thought I would share a quick project that I did this weekend.  It all started when I saw this old drink server in a local thrift store:

Now, I love the Clemson Tigers - I am an alumnus! - but this server has seen better days!  It had about an inch of dust on it, and that paw was flaking off.  But oh, I had plans for this treasure!  I started by taking off the handles, sanding off the paw and giving it a good cleaning.

Next, I taped up the cork in the cupholders:

Then I sprayed on primer (I forgot to take a picture of that step), sprayed on several coats of chalkboard paint, put the handles back on and voila!

This will be in The Keeping Room Booth tomorrow!

Antique Mall

Have you guys been to the new Antique Mall on Highway 1 yet?  You know, the one where The Keeping Room booth is?  Well, what are you waiting for?  As the weather cools down, more and more vendors are popping up in that place and I am seeing some really cool things!  I was there yesterday, but unfortunatley did not have my camera with me.  However, here are examples of some of the fabulousness that I saw:

A jar of vintage marbles like this one:

A couple of beautiful vintage bronze wheat sconces similar to this:

I always see vintage globes in there!

I saw a buddha statue similar to this one:

Several gorgeous mirrors (and the prices are great on these!)

Some gilt candlesticks such as these:

And they always have brass planters that you can do so much with - like this one:

And lots of trunks like this:

Of course, The Keeping Room has framed chalkboards:

lamps and artwork:

And of course, furniture:

We have a long weekend ahead, so come and check it out!

Bedding

My two sons have been sharing a bedroom since they were out of their cribs.  Now that they are 7 and 9, we have decided that they should have a space to call their own.  So, I have been researching, planning and working on designs for their new rooms.  In my search, I have come across the most beautiful bedding at very reasonable prices!  I thought I would share some of my finds with you.  If you are wanting to refresh any of your bedrooms, these are some great, affordable options!

This first on is the Organic Ironwork Duvet from West Elm.  Of course it has that teal blue color that I love so much!

The next one is also from West Elm.  It's the Organic Chevron Duvet and it's a serious contender for one my the boy's rooms. The bold, chevron pattern gets me every time!

This last on from West Elm is the Greek Key Duvet and it's on sale for less thatn $100!

I love the bright bamboo green of this duvet color.  It comes Overstocks.com - not a place where you might think to shop for bedding, but they have awesome prices!  You can get this 3 piece duvet set for only $54.99!  Now that is a bargain!

I love this pop of color for a girl's room!  It also comes from overstocks.com, and it's the Tommy Hilger Sommerville set.

Another zig zag duvet cover, this time from Urban Outfitters  - Zig Zag Duvet.  It comes in 2 colors is only $79!

I love this next duvet for a boho chick look!  It's the Bohemian Medallion duvet from Urban Outfitters.

Hmmm..my wishlist for things I want just got longer!  Have you seen gorgeous, affordable bedding anywhere?

Fall Decorating Ideas

So today I am going to share some fall decorating ideas with you, and hopefully show you something different and new.  I am definitely trying a few of these in my own home......

I adore feathers - in any form, including decorative balls!  How simple and chic is this?

Lights on branches?  Imagine the ambience that creates!  I feel warm and cozy just looking at this picture.

Everybody loves a letter on a front door!  I think this front entrance is adorable!

I am not usually a polka dot kind of girl, but I can't resist the planters above, the ribbon below and the pumpkin below that!  Okay, maybe I just like polka dots in the fall!?

How easy would this be to do?  No messy pumpkin-carving, just paint on the dots!  I love it!

You know that I love that teal color of the stools!  Just add in the orange from the leaves and white pumpkins and this is one of the most beautiful fall scenes that I have seen!

More feathers!  Just put a bunch in a vase and voila!  Instant centerpiece!

Here is another non-messy pumpkin idea!  Just add upholstery tacks!  This is one I am definitley trying!

This place setting has the freshness that I am looking for this year in fall decor - teal, brown and feathers!  Where oh where can I buy that stemware?

Last but not least, how cute is this wreath?  Two things I love and I think everyone should have in there decoration closet - burlap and moss!   I love how the orange pumpkins give a pop of color!

Have a great weekend everyone!
